Historic fishing harbour at Cove Bay, Aberdeenshire whos pier was closed off overnight as boulders were put in place to block the entrance in the continuing saga between fisherman and wealthy landowner and Plastic Surgeon Pralhad Kolhe who wants to close off the harbour for his own personal use. The few remaining boats are gradually being squeezed into a smaller area with the hope of eventually making it impossible to fish from the harbour.

Isle of May Lighthouse, Fife, Scotland.
A lighthouse was built on the island in 1816 by Robert Stevenson to replace a 17th century one, and is an ornate gothic tower on a castellated stone building designed to resemble a castle, 24 metres high and with accommodation for three light keepers and their families, along with additional space for visiting officials. The new lighthouse started operating on 1 September 1816, and is now a listed building.

Broomend of Crichie Pictish carved stone, Port Elphinstone near Inverurie. The Druidsfield had until the end of the 19th Century a ritual avenue of 72 stones leading to its bank-ditched enclosure and to a tripe-ring
circle of stone, but all but three avenue stones and a skeletal stone settting within the Druidsfield enclosure
have been destroyed in successive development of rail, road, industry and, more recently, gravel extraction
and a business park. Photo Ian Paterson

 Brechin Cathedral & Round Tower.

The present cathedral building (not large by cathedral standards) dates from the early 13th century and the square tower from the 14th century. But during restoration work, stones from a Norman Romanesque arch were found dating from around 1130 to 1150 and there is speculation that a new church was built at that time (during the tenure of Bishop Samson).

The tower at Brechin is 86 feet to the wallhead and over 106 feet to the apex of the octagonal cap-house (which replaced a conical one in the late 14th century. Although externally the tower narrows towards the top the internal diameter does not change much through the seven floors to the top. The towers were used as libraries and for keeping valuables and as refuges in times of violent attack.

William Lamb statue on Montrose's High Street
William Lamb was born in a small cottage in Mill Street, Montrose on the 1st June 1893. At the age of thirteen, he was apprenticed to his older brother James as a stone mason and monumental sculptor. During his apprenticeship, Lamb attended continuation classes at Montrose Academy and was encouraged by his art teacher, Lena Gaudie.

At the outbreak of the First World War, Lamb enlisted with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was wounded twice and eventually invalided out of the army with extensive damage to his right hand. Undeterred by this trauma, Lamb attended Edinburgh College of Art where he taught himself to draw, paint and sculpt with his left hand.
In 1932 Lamb was commissioned by the Duchess of York, a native of Angus, to model portrait heads of her daughters, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. Impressed by his skill, the Duchess also commissioned Lamb to produce a portrait of herself.
