 Pennan Inn, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Formerly a fishing village, Pennan became famous in the 1980s for being used as one of the main locations for the film Local Hero, and representing the fictional village of Ferness. Film enthusiasts have come from all over the world to make a phone call in the red telephone box which featured in the film. The phone box was in fact originally put there only as a prop for the film, and then removed, but as a result of public demand a genuine telephone box was installed close to the same spot, and is now a protected monument

Kirriemuir, sometimes called Kirrie, is a burgh in Angus, Scotland. Though its importance as a market town has diminished, its former jute factories (now manufacturing synthetics) echo its past importance as a centre of a home weaving industry. It is, however, probably best known as the birthplace of J. M. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan, who immortalised this "wee red toonie" in his book "The Window in Thrums". The reference is not to the town politics but to the local red sandstone from which its older properties are built. Barrie's birthplace is now a museum.
