 45 Commando Royal Marines has been in service across the world, most recently in Iraq and Afghanistan . In recognition of their service and the long and close association the unit has enjoyed with the area, 45 Commando Royal Marines were granted the Freedom of Angus by Provost of Angus Bill Middleton on Saturday, with the ceremony and parade in Arbroath. The diverse role of the marines were portrayed by around 150 service men and women who will took part in the ceremonial parade in a range of uniforms from desert combat gear to artic camouflage, with a convoy of assorted service vehicles accompanying their march

 EARLY OPENING OF A92 ARBROATH-DUNDEE DUAL CARRIAGEWAY

THE A92 Arbroath to Dundee dual carriageway has opened seven months ahead of schedule.

Andrew Welsh MSP(left) alongside Provost of Angus Bill Middleton, near the Carnoustie slip road after removing the last cone, from the 19km stretch of the A92 between Elliot in Arbroath and Claypotts in Dundee this morning (Tuesday 27 September 2005), opening all lanes of the new dual carriageway to traffic for the first time.

Angus Council, in association with neighbouring Dundee City Council, undertook the £53million road improvement project to transform the route from a congested single carriageway road with a very poor accident record to a safe and economically advantageous gateway for the area.
